Big Sis English Competition

Okay, this saturday 7 Nov, big Sis will be joining an english competition. Basically its more like a understanding given instructions and solving it in english.

Although I must say that Big Sis is pretty good in understanding written instructions, but she tend take her time and be overly thorough. the competition however is based on quickest time and least mistakes.

Anyway, she has been practicing with mommy and the school for this competition.  Honestly, we are hopeful. But we just expect her to do her best. If she wins, it’ll be a bonus. Either way, we’ll treat her something nice afterwards.

Here’s the competition poster in her school. Lets wait for this saturday!!

Flash Card

Was horsing around on Monday with Colleen, when Intan suddenly said that her vocab was improving. So we took out our animal flash card and give it a go.

Colleen was doing good for a 3 year old. She can identify quite a number of animals like  ”giraffe”, “elephant”, “horsie”…

Then, I moved the flash card quickly just to see her reaction. It went something like this:

horse

daddy: What’s this Colleen?
Colleen: Horsie!
daddy: Good.

cat

daddy: What about this?
Colleen: Meow!
daddy: yes, thats correct, but its also Cat oke?
Colleen: Oke daddy!

pig

daddy: And this one?
Colleen: oink! oink!
daddy: heheheheh!

panda-bear

daddy: what about this one?
Colleen: kung fu panda!
daddy: HAHAHAHAHAH!
Colleen: *smile*

She really made my day. Ashley & Colleen amazes me with their simple answers at times. And today, this is one of them. (okay, I confess. I let them watch Kung Fu Panda with me….but Panda Po is soooo hilarious!)

Po: I just had breakfast, and its still digesting..so my, errm.. kung fu may not be that good.

Homeschool or Not?

We just had a discussion with a teacher in Kudus to discuss Ashley’s saturday co-curricular activities a.k.a tuition.

Interestingly enough the conversation led to the education standard of our planned primary school for Ashley, SD Masehi.

And from what we discussed, it appears that SD Masehi may not be suitable for Ashley (in terms of their teaching methods).

So the alternative is to choose another school, SD Cahaya Nur, a catholic school, or homeschool. Btw, Intan was an alumni from SD Cahaya Nur.

For me, homeschool is a whole new ball game. If we opted for homeschool, then Ashley, Intan and I are will be at the same level,  Ashley the newbie homeschool student, Intan and I the newbie homeschool educators.

That being said,  I will give all to ensure Ashley gets the best education that she deserved.

So if anyone have any suggestions on homeschooling, I’m all ears.

SD Masehi, Kudus – Ashley and Colleen’s future school.

Our Kudus church just announced and tabled the fund proposal to build a new school building, SD Masehi, under the church education foundation.

This new building will be used for Sekolah Dasar (SD) to Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP), which means primary school to junior high.

So far, the facilities planned are okay, with all the necessities like a chem lab, science lab, comuter lab, library and so on….. only thing is no field! (open space very hard to come by here!) …no soccer lah!?

Oh ya, the fund requested to build this new is equivalent to RM1.5M,….care to make a donation?…:)
